Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has expressed his admiration for Portuguese midfielder, Vitinha as the sole standout performer in Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG), Champions League semifinal clash against Dortmund on Tuesday.
Despite high expectations, PSG faced elimination at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night after succumbing to Dortmund’s prowess.
Trailing by a goal from the initial leg, PSG’s aspirations of a comeback were dashed when Mats Hummels netted a crucial header in the 50th minute, doubling Dortmund’s lead following Julian Brandt’s corner.
Despite PSG’s efforts, Dortmund held firm, frustrating the hosts and denying them any chance of overturning the deficit, even as PSG struck the woodwork on four occasions.
In his analysis of PSG’s lacklustre display, Wenger lamented the team’s heavy reliance on individual brilliance from star players like Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.
Instead, he commended Vitinha for his consistent delivery of quality balls throughout the match, highlighting him as the lone bright spot amidst PSG’s collective disappointment.
Speaking to beIN Sports, the Frenchman remarked, “Only Vitinha in midfield performed tonight and produced all the good balls. After that, it was down to individual actions, to Dembele and Mbappe, and that’s what happened.”
